Chabad English Hadera

Simchat Torah

Shemini Atzeret & Simchat Torah.

The end of the Sukkot season is when the Jewish year turns. We pray for rain, dance with the Torah, and start reading from the beginning again.

The two days

What happens, and why

Shemini Atzeret

The eighth day. We recite the prayer for rain, and Yizkor, and we remain together as a community a little longer.

Simchat Torah

We finish the last portion of the Torah and begin again with Bereishit, dancing with the scrolls.

Hakafot

Seven joyful circuits around the bimah with the Torah scrolls, with singing, dancing and, of course, sweets for the kids.
